How to Stop the On-the-Job Bully

with Emmett C. Murphy, PhD, NY Times Bestselling Author

You have heard of bullying in our schools.
But bullying is also rising in the workplace!

In fact, Bullying Behavior is on the rise in virtually every organizational setting, undermining the credibility of leadership and financial stability in our companies, as well as the safety and quality of patient care and financial stability in our hospitals.

If you are leading or counseling those that are victims of bullying or are a victim yourself, you need to attend this webinar to implement effective techniques to stop bullying in its tracks and the development of a bully driven culture.

Bullying can start with a single incident and spread like a virus to contaminate a team, department, division or whole organization. Like a virus, it is transmitted person to person physically AND electronically, undermining the cohesiveness, work focus and stability of individuals and groups alike. When it spreads, the talented and dedicated flee, ‘dumbing-down’ and sabotaging performance.

You will get the proven tools to counteract bullying from this webinar.

Bullying is a problem that speaks to the very soul and purpose of an organization. It can occur in any place, at any time and in any role. It’s everyone’s problem. But, it is leadership’s black-eye.

That’s the BAD NEWS.

The GOOD NEWS is that by managing bully behavior we restore and reinforce cooperation and synergy. By preparing everyone to manage bullying behavior, we rebuild and strengthen the skills that produce breakthrough levels of quality, productivity, profits, and security.

Using proven techniques, this program is designed to address the real threat bullying behavior presents and how each of us can manage it when it strikes us, and step forward constructively when it strikes others.

Here’s how you and your organization will benefit.

Learn to Assess the Potential for Bullying Behavior using The 4-Step Bully Management Process & the Proven Tools and Techniques that translate it into action.

Step 1: Assess Bully Behavior

We begin the program with an examination. The highly regarded Murphy Leadership Behavioral Threat Self-Assessment will be used to examine the extent to which the threat of bullying and other related behaviors might be present. You will be shown how to use this assessment whenever necessary to monitor changes in culture and practice as pressures and opportunities emerge - for those you lead and counsel, or for yourself.

The Behavioral Threat Self Assessment is the first of 4 Steps that comprise Murphy Leadership’s Bully Management Process. The Process provides an operational plan for action that both individuals and teams can use to manage this very difficult challenge.

Step 2: Diagnose Bully Behavior

Bullying can have complex causes but can be simply analyzed when you have the right tools. Every act of bullying is made up of two driving forces: Anger and Fear. The Bullying Behavioral Matrix breaks down the elements of each and shows how they combine to predict and identify what is happening and why. We will use the Matrix to understand the results of the Behavioral Threat Self Assessment as well as to understand other emerging issues. With the Assessment & Matrix, you will be able to spot potential problems before they occur and more effectively plan how to address them when they hit.

Step 3: Manage One-on-One Bullying Behavior

The bully can ‘bomb, tease, manipulate, tempt, back-stab, humiliate and, always, coerce.’ It’s ‘my way, all the way’ says the bully. But, the bully needs a willing and compliant victim, as well as compliant or ignorant victim enablers. You will learn how to handle the most pressing situations with specific Bully Management Scripts, the strategies behind them and how to adapt them so you never become the Bully’s victim. At its core, bully behavior threatens who you are and who you want to be. The scripts and strategies transform the victim into an assertive and self controlled colleague, one who knows how to both protect themselves and others.

We will address very real situations taken from actual bullying encounters between co-workers, bosses and subordinates and patients or clients and staff. The Bully Management Communication Guide will be used as a handy tool for action.

Step 4: Step Forward

“All that it takes for evil to succeed is for good people to do nothing.”
Edmund Burke’s timeless observation is as relevant today as ever. We do not live in isolation, especially in a corporation, especially where teamwork and shared focus equals success. To the extent that bully behavior can destroy them, taking steps to stop and transform bully behavior will increase quality, productivity and profits.

These are difficult times, emotionally and financially. And they are times when each of us reveal who we are and what we stand for by our action AND inaction. Prepare your people to take the constructive, partnership driven action that builds great organizations. Prepare them as individuals and teams to Stop the On-the Job Bully.
